I want duplicate copies of property which I have received after death of my parents and siblings. It was self acquired property of my father and after his death it devolved upon my brother. He is died in an accident thereafter I am the sole legal heir. My deceased brother did not have original copies of the property so I need duplicate copies. How to get duplicate copies of the property which situates in Sultanpur?

Question from “Property Law”: Sultanpur (U.P.)

You can get duplicate copy of the property from the registrar office of your district. The department of registration keeps a copy of property at the time of its registration. Therefore, you can get therefrom a duplicate copy of property. There is no hurdle to get a duplicate copy of property because after the registration it becomes a public document and any one can access that document.

Get property details from the Lekhpal

First you should take details of property like its “Khata/Khasra/Plot Number” from the area Lekhpal. He has a map of the area and keeps all the revenue details of the land situate in his jurisdiction. After taking the property details you should apply in the registry department of your district for issuing a duplicate copy of the property.

Without furnishing the property details you cannot get copy of property papers. So you must make an inquiry from the area Lekhpal (Revenue) for getting the property details. If you face any problem in fetching revenue details then you can search the same from here.
